Tropical Wave Passing over Belize; More Rains Expected this Weekend
The heavy rains today and on Sunday night are typical of the rainy season, but severe weather conditions during this time can put people in life-threatening situations. Chief Meteorologist Ronald Gordon says while today’s heavy rains that caused a power failure in some areas is already history, there’s more rain ahead.
Ronald Gordon, Chief Meteorologist
“It is being caused by a tropical wave and that wave – it’s axis is already over Belize; however, we do have some, moisture lingering behind it and that is going to produce more showers and thunderstorms and lightning tonight, especially over the coastal and southern parts of the country into tomorrow. We expect improvements on Thursday through to Friday. And then another tropical wave will approach on Saturday. These occur periodically within the rainy season and every three to four days you have a tropical wave crossing and some are stronger than others and produce more thunderstorms and lightning as we saw today.”
