Public assisting with murder investigation

Although no one has been arrested yet for the brutal sidewalk slaying of moneylender Winston Burgess on Tuesday in downtown Belize City, police say members of the public have been a great help in the investigation. Public Relations Officer Christy Castillo says area residents are coming forward to give very detailed descriptions of the assailants. So far five people have been brought in for questioning. Castillo says every lead is being investigated and police are currently trying to locate some of the items described by those who saw the shooting. Burgess was gunned down outside the Caribbean Shipping Agency office at the end of Albert Street around ten a.m. Witnesses told News Five that two men parked their bicycles on the grounds of St. John’s Cathedral, one of them put on a Halloween mask and then they approached the victim. When he refused to hand over any money there was a struggle and Burgess was shot to death. Police found over six thousand dollars in cash on the body.
