Speed Guns and Breathalyzers for Transport Department
Road safety was the focus today as the Department of Transport received a donation of sixteen-speed guns, twenty-six breathalyzers with five thousand mouthpieces. The equipment was handed over by the C.E.O. in the Ministry of Economic Development Doctor Osmond Martinez to the Chief Transport Officer Dian Vasquez. According to the government press office, the handing over was made possible through the partnership of the Government of Belize and the Caribbean Development Bank. The loan received from C.D.B. supports interventions to build the country’s road safety management capacity, improve the safety of road infrastructure and improve post-crash care. The Ministry of Transport reminds Belizeans of the emotional, psychological, and financial burden placed on families of crash victims and that road trauma is a preventable public health challenge.
