Shots Fired During Chiquibul Crop Clearing Operation
News Five has received reports that over the weekend a joint operation including the B.D.F., forestry officers and Friends for Conservation and Development rangers was in the Chiquibul Reserve to destroy crops from a Guatemala farming encroachment. While carrying out the activity at an area known as Jimenez Farm, north of Rio Blanco, men believed to be Guatemalans fired at the joint team. Fortunately, no one was injured. It is not clear if there was a cross-fire, but the assailants escaped. News Five hopes to have more details in Wednesday’s newscast.
