Transport, Utilities, Food Prices Up

If you feel like you have been paying more for basic necessities lately, you are right. Belizeans have been paying more for transportation, food, electricity, water and gas, according to Statistical Institute of Belize’s latest data.  According to their findings, commuters paid eleven percent more for transportation in the month of June, compared to June 2020.  The prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by four percent in the same period, with a ten percent increase recorded in the price of fruits and a six percent increase in the prices of meats. Belizeans are also paying more for cooking fuel according to the S.I.B.  In June of 2020 the cost for a one hundred pound cylinder of gas was ninety one dollars.  In June of 2021 that price increased to one hundred and twelve dollars. On the other hand, Belizeans who wanted to enjoy some relaxation and vacation time did so at a lower rate in the month of June, when compared to the period the previous year.
