Kareem Musa on Controversial 11th Amendment

The debate around the Eleventh Amendment rages on and beyond the perceived threat to Shyne Barrow’s political future is the need to put in place a threshold for sitting public officials and aspiring politicians.  Home Affairs Minister Kareem Musa, himself an attorney-at-law, has weighed in on the controversial issue.  Aside from acknowledging various perspectives on the matter, Musa says that all constitutional amendments will be reviewed carefully going forward.

“I believe it is setting standards to serve your country in the capacity as a member of parliament.  I know that there has been a lot of discourse and that is only natural and that is very healthy for our democracy to hear different views and perspectives.  Like I’ve said before, I am one who believes in reform, true reform, not just saying that you’re reformed.  And in terms of the Eleventh Amendment, like I said, and I am sure the minister prior to me speaking, also said that we’re going to look at all of the constitutional amendments as a whole moving forward.”
