Mayor Commits to Infrastructure Works

Bernard Wagner

But it’s not all bad news for Belize City residents. As Mayor Wagner explained, the Municipal Bond did not perform as well as it was projected to, and so some of the streets that were identified for resurfacing could not be worked on during the COVID pandemic. But he says the Council commits to carrying out those infrastructural works during its current term of office.

Bernard Wagner, Belize City Mayor

“The fact of the matter is that the bond didn’t perform as we had anticipated, given that the COVID came and obviously, investors’ confidence would be shaken a bit.”

Marion Ali

“Has that placed the bond in any kind of jeopardy?”

Bernard Wagner

“No. We have met all our interest payments. Our bond-holders are happy campers. We have never missed a bond interest payment and that was from 2020. We pay our interest payments quarterly.  I am optimistic that we will be able to deliver before the end of this term on those streets, and I am speaking of those streets that are in the most deplorable conditions.”
