Youth killed over discman
The police have taken into custody Christopher Castillo and are on the lookout for Kevin Myvette. The young men are wanted for the murder of twenty-two year old Devon Velasquez, a musician from Caye Caulker. Velasquez was vacationing in the city when he was stabbed and chopped to death on Sunday night on Pelican Street. Carolyn Cadle, Velasquez’s mother, alleges that Christopher Castillo stole her son’s compact disc player and when Velasquez confronted him, he was brutally attacked.

“They were out Sunday night after he left my house and a young lady in the area told him that one of the guys have the walkman. So I was told he went over to them and he asked for the walkman, not in a loud way and you know, not trying to fight or anything. The guys cursed and rode off. He stooped down and when he looked up, they were coming up at him on bicycles. He ran from them.”
Q: “And then one of them pulled out a weapon?”

“I was told by somebody who saw him go down that they saw him stumble; that they saw what appeared to be somebody making a movement behind him and he dropped.”
A postmortem indicated Velasquez was stabbed with a knife thirteen times and there were three machete wounds to his upper chest and face.
