Venus Bus Line goes on strike
Today the Venus Bus Terminal in Belize City looked like a ghost town. On Saturday the service, one of the country’s biggest, went on strike. The move has put approximately seventy people out of a job temporarily but City Branch Manager Edilberto Chen, says the strike is to protest what Venus management says is unfair competition from another big bus line. According to Chen, Venus had the exclusive to run in the mornings from the Chetumal border to Belize City and in the evenings from Belize City to Corozal but lately the company says a major competitor has been putting the squeeze on them by illegally doing the run as well. When asked how soon Venus Buses will be up and running, Chen says at this time he can’t say but management will keep employees informed of any further developments.
