There was also loss of life in Santa Elena Town in western Belize. A nineteen-year-old resident died after the motorcycle he was riding collided with an SUV near the junction of Branch Mouth and the Loma Luz Boulevard. What is not certain at this time is who was behind the steering wheel. While Valdemir Lino has been arraigned and charged for a slew of traffic offenses, including manslaughter by negligence, the family believes that his common-law-wife Noemi Godoy was the one behind the wheel and they are asking for justice. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

“What di police know so far is that Mister Lino was travelling into San Ignacio Town from the direction of Santa Elena when he made a left turn in a southerly direction, into the oncoming lane of the motorcyclist and colliding into him. As a result, he then drove another hundred and fifty feet before coming to a stop and came out along with others and tried to render assistance to Mister Alvarez who was on the ground.”

Travelling in the Ford Escape SUV were Valdemir Lino and his common-law-wife Noemi Godoy; Godoy received some injuries, was treated and released from the hospital. Today, Lino was arraigned for the incident, but the family believes that Godoy was the one behind the wheel.
