Minister’s Son Cleared of Charges
Shots rang out in the Vista del Mar area of Ladyville on Wednesday night and police later intercepted a truck, driven at the time by Gilroy Usher Junior, the son of the Minister of State, Gilroy Usher Senior. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a nine-millimetre pistol with five live rounds. Usher Junior was detained along with two other persons and taken to the Ladyville Police Station. Commissioner Chester Williams says that Usher Junior was cleared of charges.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“From what I had been briefed, his vehicle was searched and police found therein, a nine millimetre pistol that was licensed to him. But apparently, he had not renewed the license for two weeks; I think his birthday was two weeks ago. The law does make provision for a grace period of one month. So a person has one month after the expiration of their license to renew the license. So the fact that we do have a grace period in law, he cannot be charged for unlicensed firearm.”
