Cabinet Looks at Vaccines, Climate Change and Regional Customs
In cabinet news this week, Cabinet was updated on the roll-out of the Pfizer vaccinations for Belizeans ages twelve to seventeen which began Monday. They also found out that as of the sixteenth of August, fourteen percent of the population has been fully vaccinated. Cabinet endorsed the updated National Determined Contributions to be presented by the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Disaster Risk Management, to reduce national greenhouse gas emissions while adapting to climate change. Belize will also accede to an agreement establishing the Caribbean Customs Organization to help combat regional smuggling and drug trafficking. Cabinet endorsed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and E-Governance and Harvest Trading Cap Academy for the launch of a youth scholarship program. This would be for training in financial markets and covering five thousand young people. Cabinet received an update on the new E-passport system scheduled to come on stream in 2022. Finally, Cabinet is asking all Belizeans to remain alert, as yet another system forms in the southwestern Caribbean and will move closer to our area over the next two days as a weak tropical depression.
