Will Free Education Be Piloted for Southside?
The Prime Minister says that some projects have had to be put on the back burner due to the COVID-19 situation and constraints. One of those is a free education policy for the south side, which he had wanted to start this year.
Prime Minister John Briceño
“As it is right now, we are looking at the possibility of trying to do a pilot project, test it out, in the Southside of Belize City where we have a humanitarian crisis. So, we are looking at the possibility of doing some sort of free education in the Southside Belize City. I know my other colleagues, myself included, say we have poor people. I agree we do. But, the crisis is in a small geographic called Southside Belize City. So it has to do with the location. And then, of course, it has to do with health to ensure we try to keep our people as healthy as they can, so that they can work.”
