The University of Belize is joining the nation in celebrating forty years of Independence with a public lecture on the state of the nation at forty. The panel includes career educators and scientists who will be discussing current political, economic and social conditions. You can catch the lecture live on the University of Belize’s Facebook page, or join via zoom beginning tonight at seven. We spoke via zoom to interim president at the University, Vincent Palacio.

“It is a very big event for us. It is one of our flagships. It is important that we have this public lecture and we rightly said, Belize at 40, post independence lecture, to hear from some of our thought leaders on some of the various aspects of our country’s development. So, we have brought in six of them. There could be more. This could be the first of another series. But, it is important that we start this conversation with what we have gone through in the last forty years, where we are today, and where we can go. So, it will be a very timely session. But, indeed we are very excited that we could have it. At forty, it is a very mature age and as a nation we have come a long way. We have endured floods. And, more recent and current, this pandemic that is upon us, and we have had to go through these systems and still survive. So, we have to look at the issues at play as we go through these crises, so to speak, and this pandemic, where we are right now.”
