Brooks says crime under control

And in spite of continued armed robberies at Belize City businesses — three this week alone — the prevalence of street hold-ups and the rape of an eighty-two year old woman a week ago the Commissioner says Belizeans have nothing to fear because the Police Department has things under control.

Q: “You will bring crime under control?”

“We have crime under control.”

Q: “You have it under control? Wow, I’m glad to hear that.”

“That subculture is under wraps right now. It’s not as predominant as it used to be. And you walk the streets and the people will tell you because we do our monitoring too.”

Q: “September Celebrations, are the people going to be safe out there?”

Ornel Brooks

“Yeah, safe, safe, safe. A lot of preparation has been going on and we’ll make sure that the people who go out there will enjoy themselves, so when they leave their homes they will be properly looked after.”
