House of Assembly Digitizes 1981 Historical Documents

To commemorate Belize’s fortieth anniversary of Independence, the National Assembly has digitized historical documents from 1981. A release from the Office of the Clerk says they have digitized the White Paper on the Proposed Constitution of Belize, the Report on the Joint Select Committee on the proposed terms of the constitution of an independent Belize, and records of the countrywide consultations by district and subsequent debates on Independence in the House and Senate. These historical documents are now available through the National Assembly website (www.nationalassembly.gov.bz) for those wishing to view them or use for their research. In collaboration with the National Institute of History and Culture, the National Assembly has also commissioned two works of art to be displayed at the entrance to the House. The first is a mixed media piece by artists Mercy Sabal of Dangriga and Katie Numi Usher of Ladyville. The second is a flint stone sculpture by artists from the Vacaro family of Maskall. The works are now part of the National Collection of Belize.
