Markeisha Young is Miss World Belize 2021
Belize has recently seen great representations on the international stage when it comes to pageantry. And Monday, Markeisha Young from Belize City was officially crowned Miss World Belize 2021. She will be representing the Jewel in Puerto Rico in November of this year for the international pageant. That’s two months away and Young will be competing in various categories leading up to the live broadcast of the pageant. News Five was there and spoke with national director Idolly Saldivar, the new Miss World Belize and the first runner-up.
Markeisha Young, Miss World Belize 2021
“I am extremely happy. I don’t think there is a right word to describe how I am feeling right now. I am just proud of myself for putting myself back out under the light of pageantry and actually winning. And for the judges and ILS Phoenix Foundation to have seen something in me to allow me this title and represent my Jewel. So I am really, really happy and I am really excited for the journey to start. The one thing that is going to be a bit tough for me is just leaving my family. I am prepared to do the work; I tell Idolly all the time, I don’t care what I have to do; I am going to do it. But I think the one thing that is going to make me feel a little sad is leaving my family and leaving my mom. I think the one thing that I going to be tough for me and what I really need to work on is the question and answer because yes I do sports so I am physically active and I am physically prepared for that. I do modelling so I am prepared for that as well. I sing a lot so I am prepared for that as well. I’m not going out there as Markeisha Young; I am going out there as Belize with my country on my shoulders and we are going to cement ourselves on that stage. Belize is coming.”
Meesha Magdaleno, 1st Runner Up, Miss World Belize 2021
“What really make me want to push and pursue, just even participating in the project was my team that I was working with – they were exceptional and they made all my videos, my pictures, everything come to life.”
Duane Moody
“Did you expect to be recognised today?”
Meesha Magdaleno
“I was not ready, but you have to be prepared for everything. So even though I wasn’t prepared I am still here and I’m grateful to have been a part of this amazing experience and you guys will see me again.”
Idolly Saldivar, Director, ILS Phoenix Foundation
“I feel like Belize has more to offer in pageantry and there is so much more that I feel like I can contribute. Myself and my team have been working around the clock tirelessly just to get everything going. Honestly, when I applied for the franchise, I didn’t think I would actually get it because it’s been a while. I represented Belize in 2013 at Miss World, but here I am now, I have it and I am ready to work. I believe that Markeisha is a great representative for us to Miss World and we will do whatever we can just to facilitate her in capturing at least a placement and in the future, hopefully we can bring home the crown.”
