3 Lucky Winners of Bicycles in Vaccination Drive
Belize High School embarked on a raffle a couple of weeks ago at Swift Hall in Belize City to encourage children ages twelve to seventeen to come out and get the COVID-19 vaccine, as the country prepares for the safe reopening of face-to-face learning in schools. Entry into the raffle was free for those who received their jab of the Pfizer vaccine within the last week and a half and today, three lucky winners were chosen. News Five was there for the drawing of the winning tickets.
Jamie Lee Usher, Principal, Belize High School
“Our honour society came about two weeks ago and they tried to offer breakfast. One of the recommendations was, you have a healthy breakfast before the vaccine so you don’t feel bad. So, we said, “okay, fine. We’ll offer breakfast.” When that didn’t work out, the logical reasoning and critical thinking kicked in, and they said, “You know what Miss, mek we try something else.” And so I said “okay, what you got in mind?” So they said a lot of people are worried about transportation to school. So buses, the dollar vans, those things can be quite crowded and in times of COVID, it can be nerve-racking. So we said let’s reach out to Saint Martin De Porres School and talk to Angie Moguel from St. Marti Parish and let’s figure out what we can do. She said absolutely, we love it, we’re gonna work with it.”
Lorenzo Cuellar, President, Honour Society, Belize High School
“We feel that it was important to play our part in our community to promote the getting the vaccine. Not only to students but also to the adults of our country, and anyone who is able to receive the vaccine. That is why we took it upon ourselves to start this raffle of these three beautiful bikes behind me, and whoever has gotten vaccinated over the past few days, would have been entered in the raffle, free of charge. So, I want to thank those who have gotten vaccinated over the past few days, and since vaccine has been made available to our country. Over the past few days we have gone over a hundred raffle tickets, so I could say safely that the number of people getting vaccinated is increasing which is a very good thing for the country. We are doing raffles specifically at Swift Hall, so if you were vaccinated here were entered into the raffle.”
The lucky winners were: Kejean Lino, Rodrigo Martinez and Sierra Dominguez.
