Belize Delegation to Advance Bilateral Trade Relations

During their time in Mexico, trade and agriculture ministers will be meeting with their counterparts and various Mexican agencies to further advance bilateral relations between both countries. Here’s Ambassador Oscar Arnold with a breakdown of some of the working sessions being held today and over the course of the next few days.

“We have for example the “funatur” group that is in charge for expanding a big project here in Mexico which is the Maya Trail Project which will see a railway for tourism and for the transportation of goods and produce all the way into Chetumal. And so we are seeing how best Belize can benefit from that or if that can be extended even further. Other Central American countries have shown interest – Guatemala, Panama for example. That is a huge project that links the entire southern Mexico which is the state of Quintana Roo and Yucatan all the way up into central and northern Mexico. We also have the meetings with business people, the COMPARMEX here in Mexico. We have an investment summit coming up in mid-November and so that will be promoted as well as looking at the interested business people and investors who may want to invest or expand their investment portfolio to businesses in Belize. We also have a bilateral meeting with the President of Mexico and the Prime Minister of Belize where other initiatives will be discussed; for example, assistance in the areas of education. The Mexicans are preparing to donate also another set of vaccines. And so those are some key and major points that will be discussed along with some other issues.”
