Application process for Ministry homes

We also asked Alamilla about the application process for the one hundred and fifty homes the Ministry plans to have completed by March of 2022. Cabinet will then prepare a plan to move forward with constructing additional homes in the new fiscal year.

Marisa Alamilla, Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing

“The applications, there has always been a need in the entire country for housing. That does not change with Government. Whether you are in or out of government it doesn’t change. Houses are always needed. That is the reality. We came into the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development and Housing and we found applicants in there already waiting, with nobody attending to them. Then, we as a government promised to build homes. So, we have people coming into the Ministry asking when is that going to start to happen. So, we had to jump on that and do something, even in a pandemic. And, so we started to receive applications. But, to make it transparent, and to ensure that it is equitable, and to ensure that it is accountable we have a housing team, a housing committee that is not made up of anybody that is at the Ministry. It is made up of both private and public counterparts. They choose who is going to be approved and not approved. They do that from we present a case, we present forty cases at a time and they decide what is approved and what is not approved.”
