B.T.L. awards 13 high school scholarships

Story Picture
Today B.T.L. held an award ceremony for four high school students who were able to graduate from high school because of their scholarship program. They also presented the names of thirteen students who have been awarded tuition and book scholarships for high schools in various parts of the country this coming school year.

Alicia Lopez, Scholarship Recipient

“I have a brother and sister in college and it would be too expensive for my mother and father.”

Q: “How do you feel getting this scholarship?”

Alicia Lopez

“Well I feel very excited.”

Q: “Which high school do you want to go to?”

Alicia Lopez

“Sacred Heart College.”

Dionne Chamberlain, Public Relations Manager, B.T.L.

“It was based on financial need and at the same time academic capacity as well. What we did was we accepted application forms. There were over a hundred and twenty five that came in. We were only able to give thirteen. What we did was an actual interview along with B.T.L. personnel who are on the scholarship committee and found out which ones had the most financial need and were able to meet the academic needs. This year was very heart wrenching. We had to take up to four year scholarship students because the financial need was so there and we wanted to be able to contribute so we had to increase the amount and we are very pleased. We have thirteen new people who I really think deserve a chance.”

There are one hundred and fifty four students on B.T.L. scholarships countrywide. The scholarship program first began in 1991 and was initiated by Chief Executive Officer of B.T.L. Ediberto Tesecum. Chamberlain says the company is hoping to expand the program even further so more needy children can be assisted.
