Abdula Bishop charged with assaulting girl
Despite the fact that young Belizeans, especially girls, are being told to be careful following the recent child murders and the numerous reports of sexual molestation, there are still some teenagers taking dangerous chances. Today a fourteen year old minor told News Five she accepted a ride from a man on Thursday evening, but instead of taking her to work he took her behind the Central Bank building and began touching her. The girl says around six twenty, Thursday evening, she was walking on Kut Avenue on the way to her summer job when fifty year old Abdula Bishop, offered her a ride. The girl said at first she told him no but when he kept insisting and because she was already late for work she got into the vehicle. Once inside the car, the minor says Bishop told her she has a pretty face and he wanted to be her special friend. According to the girl, Bishop said he had been watching her for a long time. She says she refused to speak to him but when he passed her work, she tried to get out of the vehicle but the doors were locked. She alleges that Bishop parked the car behind the Central Bank, asked her if she was a virgin and started touching her face and stroking her legs. The girl said she resisted and told him she had to get to work. The young girl said he finally dropped her at work but said he would pass by for her on Monday. According to the minor she immediately reported the matter to police. Today, C.I.B. told News Five that Bishop was picked up on Friday and was charged for common assault. Bishop was given station bail and is scheduled to appear in Magistrate’s Court sometime this week.
