BEST Mourns Passing of Dennis Jones

Also being mourned this week is Dennis Jones, the managing director of the Belize Enterprise for Sustainable Technology. He passed away on Monday. He was in this role since 1997 and developed and acquired funding for numerous developmental projects for Belize. According to BEST these included projects funded by the European Union, UNDP-GEF, Canada Fund for Local Initiative, the World Bank and the Inter-American Foundation. The beneficiaries of these projects are low income groups and individuals throughout the country of Belize.  Under Mr. Jones leadership, BEST was able to expand its micro credit program, providing micro loans to over two thousand low income individuals. Groups and communities were assisted through the provision of grants allowing them to implement a variety of projects such as bee-keeping, sheep rearing, vegetable production and dried fruit production. His friends and colleagues say he was committed to the development of Belize and the plight of those in need.
