Cabinet reviews hurricane improvements
Hurricane shelter upgrading was discussed in today’s Cabinet meeting in Belmopan. The retrofitting of the shelters is being financed by the Inter-American Development Bank and the Caribbean Development Bank. It was agreed that a new building will be built to serve as both shelter and offices for NEMO headquarters and Ministry of Health. A new foreign affairs building might also be constructed which could serve as a shelter. The entire schedule of work for the other shelters will be reviewed.
In other developments, Cabinet approved a bill for the establishment of a liquor licensing board for Caye Caulker Village and the Ministry of Public Utilities will take the necessary steps to provide electricity to San Miguel Village in the Toledo District. As part of the restructuring of the public service, Cabinet agreed that more responsibility should be given to the permanent secretaries for the appointment, discipline or transfer of officers in grades one through eight.
