T-shirt carnival band seeking members

Story Picture
Skimpy and expensive costumes keeping you away from carnival? Belize’s newest carnival band, TELEJAMMERS, the T-shirt carnival band, might be the solution to your problem. Organizers Sherilyn Waight and Philippa Duncan stopped by News Five to fill us in on why T-shirts might just be your ticket to kicking up in the streets without showing a whole lot of skin.

“Ever since we sent out our flyers, we’ve found that the response has been really, really good. We were looking at say a hundred people in our group but right now we think we will pass our mark because, as I said, a lot of people have responded. They think it’s a great idea and that is one of the reasons that B.T.L. decided to sponsor the group in the first place; because we are looking, we’re catering to the other person, the people that really stand on the side of the street and look at the carnival and wish they could be there but look at the costume and say, “No way!””

Philippa Duncan, Telejammers Carnival Band

“You just show up the day and join the parade; jump up and have fun. The idea is strictly for fun so we won’t form a part of the competition. We won’t be competing that day so no pressure on you at all.”

If you are interested in joining TELEJAMMERS, please contact Sherilyn Waight at 02-38320 or Philippa Duncan at 02-36194. The registration fee is 10 dollars and your costume is free. There are no practice sessions.
