D.P.P. says proceed with Milan case

Story Picture
Late last month when the former S.J.C. teacher Carlos Milan, accused of the attempted rape and indecent assault of his seven year old step-daughter reappeared in Magistrate’s Court, his common-law wife filed an affidavit to drop all charges. As a result, the case could not proceed that day but rather was adjourned until October and the affidavit forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions. Today the D.P.P. Adolph Lucas told News Five he has reviewed the case file and directed the police prosecutor to proceed to court on the charges of indecent assault. The case will be heard on October fifth at the Magistrate’s Court. Meanwhile News Five has been informed that Carlos Milan is suing St. John’s College for one year’s salary. Following his arrest, the Jesuit high school discharged the teacher on two grounds: one, he was living with a woman and they were not married and two, that in accordance with the civil service regulations a teacher can be dismissed if he or she is charged with a criminal offence. Sources tell News Five that although Milan was relieved of his duties, the former teacher did receive his full salary up to August. However, Milan may take the college to court on the grounds that he was not properly informed of his dismissal.
