PSU Wants Highly Qualified People in New Posts at MOHW
No official announcement has been made yet about who will be filling the posts of Director of Hospital Services and Director of Public Health and Wellness. The PSU President says his membership wants the posts to be filled in accordance with the Public Service Act.
Dean Flowers, President, PSU
“I took the liberty to highlight a section of the PSA that speaks to promotion. A public officer shall not be promoted to a post for which he is not qualified. The commission in considering the promotion of a public officer to fill a vacancy shall base its decision on the following. So, I am hoping for those two posts, those individuals who are highly qualified and competent will be committed to those posts, in accordance with regulations. Now, will Dr. Manza be offered one of those posts? I don’t know, because the information is conflicting.”
Marleni Cuellar
“Doesn’t that now make him redundant if his post no longer exists?”
Dean Flowers
“His post has been made redundant by virtue of what they have done. However, does the duties of the Director of Health Services, are those duties abolished? No, they are simply being split. So the post is redundant, he is not redundant. So, perhaps we can do a quick review of Minister Chebat’s comment on your show. He will be in charge of what is referred to as the international affairs in the Ministry. I don’t know where international affairs fall within the whole scope of these two posts. Clearly those posts don’t speak to international affairs. So, it wouldn’t appear that he will be the holder of one of those posts.”
