Police seek help from abroad to stop murders

Story Picture
On Monday night, city residents attended a vigil for the four Belize City girls who have been murdered. Among the concerns were the lack of leads in three of the deaths and the inexperience of the police in dealing with what might be the work of a serial killer. Members of the police force have also acknowledged their limitations and today Police Commissioner Ornel Brooks confirmed that the Department is seeking help from the FBI and Scotland Yard.

“Yes, we have made requests to both the Americans and the British and we are in discussion with the Canadians for any sort of expert resource person that may be able to come in and assist us. Yes, we have done that.”

Brooks says the government is now waiting for a favorable response. The government is also offering a 10,000 dollar reward leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who murdered 9 year old Erica Wills. She disappeared from somewhere on Euphrates Avenue on June 26th. Her body was found three weeks later. Three other children who were raped and killed, Sherilee Nicholas, Jay Blades and Jackie Fern Malic, also disappeared from the same vicinity.
