Police say no abuse: woman attempts suicide at station

Police may have nipped one potential cry of police brutality in the bud, but another allegation made it to the papers last week. The Reporter carried the story of Blanca Chinchilla of New Road who claimed Corporal Navarette punched her in the face at the Raccoon street station on July 9th. Today the police refuted that she had been punched and said their investigation had in their words, “revealed there was much more behind Chinchilla’s story than what was told.” According to police, Chinchilla appeared at the station around 2:30 am intoxicated and got into a “misunderstanding” with Navarette with whom she had a personal relationship. Police say Chinchilla tore the constable’s uniform and tried to choke him. He reportedly pushed her away and she fell and hit her nose on the wall. She was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial for treatment for her injury. But the domestic dispute didn’t end there. For some reason instead of sending the distraught woman home, she was taken to the Mesopotamia Police station where the police claim she tried to commit suicide by hanging herself with her own pants. Three officers on duty cut the pants from around her neck. Fed up with all the commotion, the supervisor Sergeant Castillo decided not to hospitalize or seek counseling for the supposedly suicidal woman, who was now without pants, but released her. The police department says they regret the incident ever took place and cite this case as evidence that they carefully investigate “each and every complaint brought to their attention.”
