Artist Pen Cayetano and family rediscover Belize
From punta rock to painting, one Belizean artist has made a name for himself both in Belize and Germany. Like many Belizeans who have moved abroad, Pen Cayetano and his wife Ingrid have brought their children: Mali, Beni and Ibo home for their summer vacation to relax and learn about their culture. Although they have made the pilgrimage to his beginnings in Dangriga, Cayetano believes the children who have inherited his love for music and formed the Cayetano Band still have much to learn. News Five’s Arreini Palacio visited the Cayetanos who are guests at the House of Culture this afternoon.

“So far down in Dangriga they have been working with some of the artists down there like Mohobob, Titiman and most of the Dangriga artists so these children have seen the first hand works of Dangriga artists. So seeing that, they will more adapt and they will be doing some more when they go back to Germany.”
“I came here definitely to visit and to see Belize and enjoy ourselves and apart from our visit we are going to be doing a little bit of music so that the kids of Belize can know that other kids, that they can do something as well with the children here in Belize.”
“I hope that they could come back to Belize and fit because right now they are little but farther away from kinda situation here in Belize but by bringing them here they can fit into the Belizean culture and it will not be so much of a strain for them. So that is why we do most of our holidays in Belize so they can see how their father used to live down here.”
The Cayetano Band plays soul, reggae and of course, punta rock. They are going back to Bonn, Germany at the end of July.
