Belize Seeking to Attract More Mexican and European Visitors

While there is much to celebrate about getting two more flight with tourists per week to Belize, the Belize Tourism Board has also been marketing the country to other location within the United States. Following the ceremony on Friday, News Five asked Minister Mahler what other areas we are looking to, to attract more tourists to Belize. He said there’s another non-stop flight coming our way very soon.

“We’re also getting on December tenth Frontier Airlines out of Denver and out of Orlando, so new routes into Belize. We don’t have big budgets like the big destinations, but we have creative people and I believe that with technology and social media, those things are the great equalizers and if we utilize those to our advantage, we can penetrate a lot of the important markets that support Belize.”

“How are we doing in terms of attracting the Europeans, though?”

“Next week, I go to – you asked about European carriers – I go to Mexico with a delegation to talk to the Mexican carriers. We believe that with a hundred and twenty million Mexicans right next door to us; that is a huge market for us. It’s underserved. Only seven thousand Mexicans come to Belize overnight for vacation purposes or business purposes. Other than that, (they) go to the Free Zone and we believe that’s a huge market for us. We (will) also go to London to speak to British Airways and hopefully we can get a meeting with Virgin Atlantic, and we have talks going on with KLM but we are trying to hold those discussions close to our chest because the airlines don’t like any premature announcements.”
