Caye Caulker Death Questioned By Family
Canadian Jasmine Hartin is still awaiting trial for the shooting death of Police Superintendent Henry Jemmott, as well as for cocaine possession and common assault. But her name has surfaced again. This time in connection with a young man who died on Sunday. Police found twenty-six-year-old Joel Young dead in the Bahia area of Caye Caulker. Witnesses claim to have seen Young running down a street before he collapsed. His sister says Joel had been under the influence of cocaine for three days, but it is not yet known if this played a role in his death. He had no known history of illness and a rapid test for COVID came back negative. Today family members told News Five they have yet to receive any report from the Police Department and that no autopsy has been performed so far. The family is looking for answers, especially since they also heard he may have been shot. Young and Jasmine Hartin had been living at the same residence at the caye, and she and Joel’s sister went to the hospital to identify his body. According to our records, in April 2015, Joel Young was charged alongside four others with drug trafficking after a police pre-dawn raid on their apartment in San Pedro, they found eighty-three grams of cocaine packaged for sale.
