2 Die in Separate Motorcycle Accidents in Southern Belize

As we said there were three fatal accidents over the weekend; two of which occurred on Saturday in southern Belize. In the wee hours, there was a fatal RTA at mile twenty-two on the Hummingbird Highway. On the right side of the road was an extensively damaged motorcycle and a short distance away, police saw the body of Keon Richie, a resident of the Valley Community. Initial investigations revealed that after eleven p.m. on Friday, Richie was socializing at Mile twenty-three on the Hummingbird Highway, and then decided to return home. Before reaching the Middlesex Bridge, he allegedly lost control of his cycle and crashed into the left rail guard, which resulted in his fatal injuries.

The other fatality involved a resident of Santa Cruz Village, Stann Creek who was struck by a vehicle. Around three a.m., police responded to a road traffic accident between miles ten and eleven on the Southern Highway and found the body of Alec Gomez. While travelling on his motorbike, Gomez, lost control of his bike and ran off the highway near a culvert. He managed to regain balance and swerved back onto the highway, but into the path of a vehicle which hit and dragged him about fifty yards before coming to a stop.  Gomez received severe head and body injuries and succumbed on the scene.
