YMCA offers summer programs
For the past week, volunteers from St. Louis, Missouri have been training Belizean volunteers in the areas of aquatics, camp and education, gearing up for next Tuesday when girls and boys of all ages begin attending the YMCA summer programs. Director of the program, David Halcomb, says he expects great things from the volunteers and students and looks forward to learning some Creole along the way.

“I think that Belize children are wonderful. They just want to feel a part and feel that love and you can do that while learning how to swim or being part of an educational program.
It’s kind of fun that exchange of language and trying to understand and learn some of the slang terms for things.”
You can still sign up for the YMCA programs either as a volunteer or as a student. Parents are reminded that summer school classes range from standard one to high school prep. In sports and recreation, programs include tennis and basketball camps. Open to experienced swimmers only is the new snorkeling program. For more information, please contact the YMCA
