N.C.F.C. holds weekend workshop
Members of the Swim Across Belize for Outstanding Relief, SABOR, will be taking to the waters on Sunday July fourth. The swim to raise awareness about Cancer and funds for the Belize Cancer Society, was postponed due to inclement weather late last month. It will cover the distance between St. George’s Caye and Belize City. Most of the 30 swimmers will be part of relay teams while three swimmers will go the entire distance on their own. The benefit swim is being spearheaded by SABOR with help from the Belize Audubon Society and the Belize City Rotary Club. The swimmers will be arriving at the B.T.L. Park at around four o’clock.
The National Committee for Families and Children will be having two events over the weekend. The first, which will take place on Saturday, is the first seminar for the judiciary on the Families and Children Act of 1998. District magistrates, police prosecutors, court clerks and family court personnel will examine, review and make recommendations on the act. The workshop, which will take place at the Belize Institute of Management, will be facilitated by Lisa Shoman. On Sunday, twenty-six women will be graduating from the one-year adult education program sponsored by N.C.F.C. The students took classes in basic Math and English, management and hospitality, and computer and office training. The program, which started last year, is to upgrade the skills of unemployed women, many of whom are mothers. The graduation takes place at the St. Mary’s Hall at three o’clock.
