Mennonite still held hostage
But Erica Wills’ family isn’t the only one worried about a missing relative. Tina Penner and her four small children are still waiting for the return of Menno Penner who was kidnapped in Belmopan three and a half months ago. Penner was taken from his orchard on March 17 and the Citrus Growers Association has begun to circulate a flyer asking the public for their help. They are also asking the authorities to “continue their efforts to bring a successful conclusion” to his family’s ordeal. Tina Penner told News Five she prays constantly for her husband’s safe return and hopes to have news soon. She has declined to comment further on her husband’s situation or any communication from the kidnappers. Belmopan police say there have been no new developments in the case. It is believed Penner was kidnapped by an organized criminal gang with members from El Salvador and Guatemala who have been masquerading as guerrillas. They have reportedly asked for one million dollars ransom which the family is unable, and unwilling to pay. News Five understands Penner has been moved several times to locations on both the Belize and Guatemalan side of the border. Sources also tell News Five this is not the first time he has been kidnapped.
