Teen Shot in Dangriga; ComPol Says Gang Intervention Needed
There was another shooting incident recorded overnight; this time in Dangriga. Nineteen-year-old Leonard Baltazar was riding a bicycle on Saint Vincent Street when two men on motorcycles rode up behind him and one of them fired several shots in his direction. Baltazar received multiple injuries to the body and was rushed to the Southern Regional Hospital where he is admitted in a stable condition. ComPol Chester Williams says that there has been an increase in gang activity in that southern municipality.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“We know that over the past few months we have seen an increase of gang violence in Dangriga town and I spoke to the O.C. and the regional commander today and tell them that there needs to be more done to ensure that we quell the situation in Dangriga. And I expect that by this evening, I will get some plan from them in terms of what they intend to do to address the gang problem in Dangriga so that the people of Dangriga can begin to feel a bit more safer within that municipality.”
