Land alliance to create new distribution policy
If you’ve been back and forth to the Ministry of Natural Resources trying to get a piece of land, you know how frustrating the whole process can be. Three organizations have teamed up to try and change the way Belizeans get access to land, and what it is used for. Under the theme, “Our Land, Our Life,” three organizations, the Belize Audubon Society, SPEAR and the Belize Association for Producers Organization met today to launch the Land Alliance for National Development. The agencies hope to create a national land policy that will be nonpartisan and fair.
Joe Lisbey, Belize Association for Producers Organization
“Really for you to get a piece of land right, if you don’t belong to a political party that is in power, then you are in problem.”
Diane Haylock, Executive Director, SPEAR
“We are saying that we cannot continue to handle land the way that we have been handling it in the past and it is time for us to bring about some serious changes.”
The Land Alliance for National Development hopes to bring about serious changes in the management and distribution of land in Belize by September, 2001.
