…And Dancehall King and wife D’Angel will heat up City Center

Story PictureWhile the King of Lover’s Rock is in Belize, tomorrow the King of Dance Hall, Beenie Man will be arriving in the country. Known as Moses Davis to his family, the Jamaican born Rastafarian has worked with many accomplished artists in the music business such as Mya, Janet Jackson, Wyclef Jean and the Neptunes. Beenie received a grammy for Best Reggae Album in two thousand. Joining Beenie on stage tomorrow night are artists Anthony Cruz and D’Angel. They arrived this afternoon and our crew caught up with them at the Renaissance Tower. Cruz and D’Angel gave a preview of what Belizeans should expect in the show.

Anthony Cruz, Singer
“I’m an artist that brings lovers rock, roots, culture, one drop music. Those are the kind of vibes we try to bring to the people like Beres Hammond and those guys. So right about now that’s the kind of music that’s coming back in Jamaica right now; the one drop. We just drop one album VP Records and the album is tearing up Jamaica and tearing up the world right now. So basically, it’s for the ladies; roots, rock, one drop music. Yeah man.”

William Neal
“Why should people come out to the City Center on the seventh to come see you perform?”

Anthony Cruz
“Well, first I don’t think nobody has ever really seen me in Belize perform. If you done know—basically they watch some of the big shows in Jamaica, they’d know that my vibes pan stage is more for the people, the crowd. I get the crowd into the vibes and just energetic vibes, and at the same time just keeping it clean and keeping it positive and just reaching out to the people, mek sure they get the message because it’s not just go and sing but mek sure you get the message that you’re trying to send.”

D’Angel, Singer
“I just bring positivity. I’m a positive artist, uplifting artist that really—I’m the backbone for females. Females can relate to my music. Everybody in all, in general my music is not explicit; my music is very clean so when I reach the stage it’s just dem vibe deh whether it’s a blazing vibe or it’s a conscious vibe. I’m versatile so I’ll be bringing it.”

William Neal
“What can people expect when they come to the City Center tomorrow night to see you perform?”

D’Angel
“Fun and excitement and just interaction and just being me and holding the vibe and just being D’Angel.”

Michelle ‘D’Angel’ Downer is not only a recording artist but is also married to Moses “Beenie Man” Davis.
