Fire victims receive aid

Story Picture
Minister of Housing Dickie Bradley and Pickstock Area representative, George Price toured the scene of the Victoria Street fire this afternoon. Minister Bradley says all 52 people who were displaced will be given the opportunity to relocate.

Richard Bradley, Minister of Housing

“What will come, we will put back attractive homes and a number of people have asked to be relocated. I know the Rhaburn family, this has been their second fire in this same area. They do not mind going to Hattieville or Lord’s Bank. Other people will be getting attractive, affordable homes. On the spot, what will happen, the Cuban technology that I know Belizeans will go crazy for when they see the kind of beautiful homes coming out of the factory.

The people, who have suffered from the fire, will see how far the government will move to put them back into shelters.”

All the fire victims have received financial assistance based on the size of their family as well as food and clothing and a month’s rent from the Ministry of Human Development. Anyone interested in helping the fire victims can make donations to accounts at the Belize City Council and the Holy Redeemer Credit Union.
