Benque police need help identifying body found in river
Benque Viejo del Carmen police are asking the public to help them identify the body of a Hispanic man who was found floating in the Mopan River on Wednesday. Police were called to an area known as Garbutt Falls, about a quarter of a mile from the Guatemalan border, where a body was seen floating face down. The corpse, which was clothed in a white sleeveless shirt, black jeans and leather boots, had a stab wound to the chest. The body was taken to the San Ignacio Hospital Morgue. Since it was found so close to the border and without any identification. Police in Melchor de Mencos, Guatemala are assisting in the investigation. Anyone who may be able to assist is asked to contact the Benque Viejo Police.
Another body has been found in Stann Creek but in this case police do not suspect foul play. 62 year old Juan Cruz was reported missing on Father’s Day and his body was found by his son along the South Stann Creek River on Tuesday. The body was taken to the Stann Creek Hospital morgue for a postmortem.
