Manuel Sosa sworn in as Court of Appeal Judge
Manuel Sosa was sworn in as a judge of the Court of Appeal this afternoon at the Belize House in Belmopan. Sosa had been appointed Chief Justice by the Esquivel administration just days before the August election. The Supreme Court, however, ruled earlier this year that the Leader of the Opposition, Said Musa, had not been meaningfully consulted with as required by the Constitution and nullified the appointment. Sosa had filed an appeal which was to be heard earlier this week by the Court of Appeal, but with his acceptance of a post on that very court, the case has been withdrawn. The United Democratic Party says while they continue to denounce Sosa’s removal as Chief Justice, they welcome his appointment on the Court of Appeal.
