B.T.L. introduces Caller ID
Today, B.T.L. launched its newest feature: Caller ID. The service allows you to find out who is calling you before you pick up the phone so you can screen your calls. It also records all incoming calls so even if you are out, you will know who called and when, so you can call them back. News Five’s Janelle Chanona was at the launch this morning.
Sherilyn Waight, Public Relations Representative, B.T.L.
“Okay basically what happens is that when the telephone rings, you will see the date, the time of the call and the number of the person that is calling you. And it shows you the area code and the full number.”
Q: “Will they require a different phone or is this something they can attach to their current phone?”
Sherilyn Waight
“Okay, we have available the phones that have the feature on the phone and we also have what you call the Caller ID box that you can attach to your normal phone. Both of them can work, you know, the same way. It works the same way.”
The service is available in Belize City, Ladyville, the La Democracia expansion area, Sandhill and Belmopan. Waight says other areas of the country will soon be able to use this feature. But will Belizeans be able to know who’s calling for less than you expect?
Sherilyn Waight
“Okay, we have today if you apply up until the end of the month you get free activation and it’s a $5 a month charge.”
Beginning in July, there is a $5 activation fee in addition to the $5 a month service charge. But before you get too excited about the prospect of being able to screen your calls for practically nothing, you can’t get the service without a special phone or a Caller ID box. The phones with this feature range in cost from $76 to $306. Or if you prefer to keep your present phone, the Caller ID box is a $33 one time cost. Janelle Chanona for News Five.
One advantage of this service that you will not see in the B.T.L. advertisements is that those people who want to know whose been making all those calls to their spouse can now find out immediately.
