But after Dr. Coyi served in the public service, he turned to the private sector, where he was one of the founding members of the Belize Medical Associates Hospital in Belize City.

“I’m proud at the way in which it has developed, from a small four-bedroom hospital to where we are right now. It’s a medical institution that is fully owned by Belizean doctors, so I’m thinking back. More recently, I’ve been involved as part of the COVID response team to the Ministry of Health, providing technical recommendations to the Ministry of Health and I’ve also been part of what is called the National Immunization Group that advises, again, the Ministry on which vaccines to accept and when to accept them and I think that is where I’ve been noticed more recently or more prominently. So I accept it certainly on my behalf, my family, the medical community and also the Rotary Club.”

Coyi has also been a member of the Rotary Club of Belize since 1993.
