Sugar Mill Had Been Concerned About Blockade

That signing was today, but on Thursday, A.S.R./B.S.I. was still concerned about the blockade and the interruption of the 2021/2022 sugar crop. The company issued a release saying it was concerned that if the delay was prolonged, it would mean there would be cane left on the ground at the end of the sugar crop. A.S.R./B.S.I. also characterized the blockade created by cane trucks as an illegal and deliberate breach of the current cane purchase and sale agreement.  They said the move by B.S.C.F.A. was essentially holding three other associations   hostage, since forty nine percent of the cane belongs to those cane farmers.  They did however note that the company was prepared to collaborate in determining on a constructive way forward. These concerns may have been the driving force for the sugar mill to sign an interim agreement that expires at the end of the sugar crop.
