ComPol Not Happy: Possible Shakeup in Dangriga Police Command
Is this recent gun violence in Dangriga the proverbial straw that has broken the camel’s back when it comes to policing efforts in that southern municipality? We can confirm tonight that there may be a shakeup in the police command in Dangriga because according to ComPol Chester Williams, since last year; there have been a spate of violence in that jurisdiction which seemingly has been going unresolved.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“I had tasked the O.C. and the regional commander to put together and action plan in terms of how they will address the ongoing problem in Dangriga. Again, all in an effort to ensure that we don’t see Dangriga become the way how Belize City is and that problem persist. Again, we are seeing that the violence continues in this town and I don’t intend to sit back and allow these things to get out of control and then try to see what can be done to mitigate it. This is a new year and I must say that my actions are going to be swift this year. I think that we can do better and so I am looking at the entire structure of the Dangriga police formation to see what can be done to enhance the service that they are offering to the people. I am looking at the entire command structure including to see what can be done even if it means making some drastic changes and make sure that the people of Dangriga get the level of policing that they so rightly deserve. So I am meeting here today with Commander Operations, Head Special Branch, Commander GI3, Commander SPU; I have also invited the mayor. I will have the regional commander as well as the formation commander. I am meeting with them this afternoon to discuss the way forward.”
