Girl makes false rape report

With the rape and murder of yet another child this week, this time in Orange Walk, everyone is on edge and on the lookout for possible cases of abuse. But today, Belize City police discovered that one young lady was making a false claim against her stepfather and she herself was charged with committing a mischievous act. According to police the thirteen year old girl who lives with her mother and stepfather, got into an argument with her stepfather over the weekend. Her visiting sixteen year old cousin, reportedly told the girl that if she wanted to get rid of her stepfather all she had to do was make a false report to the Department of Social Services and say he raped her. The minor apparently followed this bad advice, made a report and the case was brought into the Criminal Investigations Branch office. When she was interviewed by the officer in charge this afternoon, however, she finally admitted to the lie and was charged. Police are still looking for the sixteen year old cousin, who returned to her home in Punta Gorda earlier this week.
