SABOR holds cancer swim
On Sunday June 20, thirty-three swimmers will brave the waters from St. George’s Caye to Belize City to raise funds and awareness about cancer in Belize. Members of Swim Across Belize Outstanding Relief, SABOR are spearheading the effort with help from Belize City Rotary and the Belize Audubon Society. While most of the swimmers, the youngest of which is 16, will be part of relay teams, three swimmers will go the entire distance on their own. News five spoke with Julianne Robinson of the Belize Audubon Society, which is lending its support and SABOR President Manuel Lizarraga.

“Manuel Lizarraga approached us and asked us to help him out with the swim because it is such a large event. So we decided, well, its a great cause, so we got involved with it and we’re helping in the coordination and logistical coordination, especially with getting boats for support, as to well as having Red Cross aid us for the first aid support as well. So for the most part it is the coordination and planning of this event.”

“The events starts about seven o’clock, where there will be registration of swimmers and other activities, at the BTL park. About eight o’clock they will be boarding on boats to go to St. George’s Caye and the swim will be inaugurated about nine o’clock, and then the swimmers will be take off from St. George’s Caye swimming. I’m hoping that when we reached the shore there’ll be a lot of people there, to cheer us and say hey guy, good job done.”
If you would like to greet the swimmers, they should arrive at the BTL park around three thirty in the afternoon of June 20th.
