Accused “Junie Balls” murderer freed of charges

Story PictureAlso in the Supreme Court, this past Wednesday twenty-one year old Edward Lord Jr., beat a murder charge in the killing of Crip Leader, George Junie Balls McKenzie. Crown Counsel Trienia Young submitted that the prosecution had no further evidence to offer after Justice Adolph Lucas did not accept as evidence a statement made by Frederick “Diggy Dapp” Lynch Smith, the chief witness who could not be located at the time of the trial. Without Smith’s evidence the prosecution had no case and Justice Lucas directed the jury of six men and six women to find Lord not guilty. A voire dire was held to determine the admissibility of Lynch Smith’s statement. It came to light that the prosecution had not made all reasonable steps to locate Lynch Smith as was required by law. Attorney Alifa Elrington who represented Lord was able to prove that the police efforts fell short. Young called two witnesses, Corporal Isaac Pascual and Corporal Allison McLaughlin. Pascual testified that he served Lynch with a subpoena on January twenty-second, 2009 while Lynch was hiding in Orange Walk. He went back to Orange Walk for a second time on February twenty-third, but could not locate Lynch. Pascual also publicized a photo of Lynch in the media, but Justice Lucas ruled that these efforts were not enough. McKenzie was gunned down on August twenty-seventh, while he was standing near the entrance to Pinks Alley.
