Belizean Beach almost ready

Story Picture
The Belizean Beach at mile four and a half on the Western Highway is being cleaned and prepared for Sunday’s big bash which will officially reopen the site. Although there is much more work left to be done, organizers of the event say that the site will be ready by Sunday. Rhenae Nuñez is the Public Education Officer for the Ministry of Urban Renewal.

“What’s out here is the final touches for the grand reopening of Belizean Beach. As you know it all arose out of the southside tour by Mr. Bradley whose brainchild it was to bring back Belizean Beach. We have seen diminishing of recreational areas for city residents and he came up with the idea to bring back the beach and bring back what I call a wonderful piece of Belizean real estate.

On Sunday starting at 11 in the morning we will have lots of music: Mawga Man Sounds and the New Dimensions Band. We’ll have lots of live entertainment on stage. There will be food and drinks out here. It’s just a big beach bash and we want everyone to come out and enjoy a day of family fun.

Charges at the gate will be one dollar for adults and three dollars for parking. What we want to do is use whatever we make to reinvest into the beach. There is a long-term plan for Belizean Beach. We want to do other things and keep it open for Belizeans. After Sunday you are welcome to come out here and swim and hang out on the beach.

We still need to do much more work. This is a work in progress. Sunday is just a day set aside to officially reopen the beach and we want to invite all city residents and anyone who is near enough to come out and enjoy a day of fun.”

Q: “For those who want to come out but are worried about transportation, is this as well being provided?”

Rhenae Nuñez

“Oh, no problem. Novelo’s Bus will be running from Pound Yard Bridge to and fro every hour, so that’s no problem.”

There will be a minimal charge for the bus transportation on Sunday.
